The dot pattern is interlaced dots. Dot count 9-2.
The outline structure of saraswati kolam:
The name Saraswati came from "saras" (meaning "flow") and "wati" (meaning "a woman"). So, Saraswati is symbol of knowledge; its flow (or growth) is like a river and knowledge is supremely alluring, like a beautiful woman.
Saraswati is worshipped as the goddess of knowledge, learning and the arts. This is an important day for schools, musicians, dancers and artists. This kolam is drawn to increase the memory power and to seek the blessings of the goddess. It's ideal to draw five lotus with rice flour below this kolam and worship the goddess.

Thank you Subbu thatha. Found this in a book and badly wanted to share with all.
Hi,
Would you be able to explain the Saraswati symbol to me?
Also why is the symbol sometimes depicted with 5 heads and sometimes with 7?
actully it is with 7 heads and 7 heads represents 7 swar i e . sa re ga ma pa dha ni sa . this.symbol is created by god Parshurama
on dashahara take a slate and draw this symbole called saraswati and do pujan . it is very benificial
Thank you so much for the beneficial information :)
Make a pedant & put to children for study it's helpful
In maharashtra also this 2-9 Dot pattern drawings are drawn on slate by students on Saraswati Puja day.
My question is What is the source behind association of this image with Saraswati Puja. Is it from some religious text or archeological site.
